According to Ann Donnelly, Museums Curator at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, "This eighteenth-century oil painting is of the Stratford Market Cross in 1769, decorated for David Garrick's Shakespeare Jubilee celebrations. The painting is 74.5 cms x 62 cms (oil on canvas). It is possibly by local artist Edward Grubb, and is on display at Hall's Croft, Old Town, Stratford upon Avon.
"The medieval market cross base (with its later timber framed clock tower structure) was located at the top of Bridge Street, Stratford. The stone cross base is now in the Shakespeare Exhibition at the Shakespeare Centre."
